The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1: $283.5 Million Worldwide Opening Weekend

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 is number one in the box office with an opening of $139.5 million domestically and $144 million internationally totaling a $283.5 million worldwide opening weekend!  The strongest domestic performance was in Salt Lake City followed by New York City.  This is the second best three-day opening for the Twilight Saga franchise; The Twilight Saga: New Moon opened at $142.8 million domestically back in November 2009.  Summit Entertainment anticipates to make $1.2 billion off both parts of Breaking Dawn.

According to Summit Entertainment's president, Richie Fay, "There's a definite interest in wanting to continue to see the series.  The fact that our audience is aging up a little bit, the impulse to get out and see it on the first weekend isn't necessarily there the way it has been. To me, that means that the holdover should be much better.  Breaking Dawn's audience was 80 percent female and 60 percent older than 21." The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 has a release date of November 16, 2012.

Here are the domestic box office figures for the weekend of November 18 - 20, 2011:
